GIANT at 1413, May 9, 2007. It was clear from yesterday afternoon that Giant really wanted to erupt, as there were several strong hot periods.

My geyser report for today will have to wait for tomorrow, as shortly it will be off to the traditional Giant Celebration at Bill's and Eino's.

Suffice to say here that this morning was a time of wierdness in Grotto -- repeated South Grotto Fountain, one observed Startling, and Spa in boiling overflow ALL morning (for not less than 5 hours).

At 0847 there was a strong hot period: Feather on for about 8 minutes, a pause of 2 minutes, then Feather restart for an additional 5 1/2 minutes. This was followed by a series of four short, mostly weak hot periods on hourly intervals.

At 1358 (all times approximate), Mastiff began to rise, but it didn't really want to participate. It came up, went down, etc. so that we were talking about a possible bathtub. Finally it came up to near overflow. The southwest vents came on at 1402, Feather finally started at 1404. It was weak. Fether Satellite came on at 1406. Mastiff did almost nothing. At 1407 Mastiff began to drop but, though they grew very weak, Feather and Feather Satellite continued and after a minute or so they grew stronger. Bijou came on at 1411 and Feather and Satellite continued. The vent between Catfish and Bijou began to play to 1 foot or so. Giant began to surge, rapidly stronger. And then 1413.

  Interval 7d 19h 02m.
Duration we decided was 99 minutes.
Height of the initial jets we uniformly decided were well over 200 feet, likely 230 to 250.

A reduced but otherwise unprocessed photo is attached.
