THIS MESSAGE IS FOR THE PERSONAL USE OF THE READERS OF THIS LISTSERV AND MAY NOT BE REPRODUCED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE, INCLUDING PUBLICATION IN THE SPUT. (Tom & Genean, I'll incorporate it in an article on Lower Geyser Basin activity for the August Sput.)
I recently received a request for information about the 1991 dual eruptions of Fountain and Morning. Since many of the subscribers to this listserv weren't interested in geysers back then, I decided to post information about those eruptions here, with a cautionary note: Remember that past performance is no guarantee of future performance.
Date Fountain's Duration Morning's Duration Lag between start of Fountain and start of Morning
7/4/91 95 minutes 31 minutes Morning started "soon" after Fountain started
There was a Fountain solo between the dual on 7/4/91 and the dual on 7/5/91.
7/5/91 82 minutes 21 minutes 2 minutes
After the dual eruption on 7/5/91, the energy shifted back to Fountain until
8/9/91 122 minutes 38-1/2 minutes 1 minute
At this point the energy shifted back to Morning. Morning erupted at an average interval of about 3h45m until
8/28/91 140 minutes 36 minutes Less than one minute
Neither Fountain nor Morning had a solo eruption between the 8/28 and 8/29 dual eruptions
8/29/91 98 minutes 27m25s 1m15s
Following this dual eruption, the energy shifted back to Fountain.
Intense study of the Fountain Complex for much of the summer resulted in several Transactions articles--one describing Morning's activity in May, July, and August that year, and a series describing how Jet, Bearclaw, Twig, Fountain, Spasm, Clepsydra, and Spasm's activity changed depending on whether the complex was on "Fountain Function" or "Morning Function."
