I am writing this the day after as I got to Mammoth at 12 A.M. and
was not awake enough to write this. Grotto quit at 1220.. The
marathon was 15 to 17 hours long. All thought out the day we watched
the GIP fill. At about 2145 Matthew McLean and I left the cage to go
to Mammoth. When we arrived in the government area we hear Dave
Goldberg over the radio that the post marathon hot period had
started within 4 minutes Mastiff erupted and the platform died about
6 minutes into the hot period. About a minute later Feather and the
southwest vents start and mastiff erupts again. Giant 2210.
During the waning hour of sunlight mastiff had a a few fills that if
it had gotten any more water in it both it and the gip would have
been in over flow. When I left the water was about 4 inches from the
top of the gip.
Other things seen while sitting at Giant yesterday
5 Oblongs all about 4 1/2 hours apart
3 Grands from what I could tell at least two of them were 2 bursts
3 Riversides
4 Daisies
1 Beehive (actually coming from dinner)
