Russell (the coach driver) also told us that Fountain appeared empty when
they arrived, and that they heard a loud popping noise while by Clepsydra,
and the big eruption started. The eruption (behind Fountain) was over 50
feet high (beyond flashlight range at times), and 50-75 feet wide. A
thumping accompanied the eruption throughout its duration. The sky that
night was 80% cloud cover; there was a crescent moon.

The eruption started at 1927 and ended at 1954 (on March 2). It consisted
of a burst, pause, another burst, similar to a Grand eruptioin. Jet erupted
at 1946 (d=3), Twig did not erupt, and Clepsydra was in eruption throuighout
and for at least 10 minutes afterward when they had to leave. The big
erutpion's spray made the boardwalk wet.

Russell's information came from notes he took at the time.
