To help answer the tree question, tree bark is often
dark in color which allows it to absorb more energy
from the electromagnetic spectrum that the earth is
receiving from the sun. This means that the darker
the tree bark, the more heat energy it will absorb.
This causes the tree trunk to be a bit warmer than the
surrounding area, which in turn causes a relatively
snow free ring around the trunk of the tree. I hope
