[Geysers] Here's a new one

[MA Bellingham]

Found perusing the YNP archives. a permit was issued 


"1912 F.J. Haynes to install siren at Picture Shop in Upper Geyser Basin to
announce eruption of large geysers; permission granted."

 

Never heard this one before!  Obviously if it lasted, we would have heard
more about it in guidebooks of the time and trip reports.

 

Wonder if you could hear it if you were in the showers when Giantess was
erupting?  Not that we know anyone that that has happened to..

 

There was also a permit issued for someone to transport their APE through
the park in 1914. The gorilla that Lynn Stephens saw at Flood Geyser
apparently was not the first.
