Box 168 Yellowstone National Park, WY 82190 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 3, 2005 05-22 Matthews(307) 344-2010 ---------------------------------------------------- YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK NEWS RELEASE ---------------------------------------------------- Yellowstone National Park Invites Students To Study Geysers in its Global Classroom Yellowstone National Park announces the premiere of Geyser Quest, airing May 11-13, 2005, on the Windows into Wonderland electronic field trip website www.windowsintowonderland.org. The trip blends modern and historic photographs to contrast the present faces of the park’s hydrothermal treasures with their manifestations in the past. Animations and illustrations demonstrate scientific concepts, while video clips capture the dramatic eruptions of Old Faithful and Anemone Geysers. Viewers are challenged to broaden their knowledge of geyser formation and function by participating in interactive quizzes. Students from the park’s residential program, Expedition: Yellowstone! appear in the field trip’s video clips to help tell the story of Yellowstone’s geysers. The program lasts approximately 50 minutes. Lesson plans, guided by the National Education Standards for grades 5-8, are included to extend the on-line experience. Subject matter experts will answer questions posted on a message board that opens at 9:00 a.m. MDT on May 11 and closes at 4:00 p.m. MDT on May 13. Geyser Quest is sponsored by the National Science Foundation through a generous grant to the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Twelve previous eTrips, focusing on Yellowstone’s wildlife, history, geology, and ecology, are available online 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Participation in the park’s electronic field trips is free. Students from more than 100 countries and all 50 states are already attending the park’s global classroom. Educators are encouraged to register online at www.windowsintowonderland.org and preview Geyser Quest before it officially premieres.
