I spent a few hours at West Thumb today. Nothing really exciting, but a few things: Ledge Spring is active. Closed intervals varied from 22-31 minutes, and the eruptions reached 1-3 feet. Surging Spring was dormant and not overflowing. Twin Geyser was dead-there was water in the crater but no boiling. The small perpetual UNNG across the boardwalk from Twin was dry and acting as a fumarole. Hillside was in overflow all day. Fishing Cone is barely above the lake, and Lakeshore Geyser is under about a foot of water. There is a small UNNG erupting near Venting Pool. It is a vent I have never seen erupt before. Intervals were about 10 minutes long and the eruption reached a foot or so. Closed intervals on Occasional Geyser varied from 16-30 minutes. The main (circular) vent erupted from 3-6 feet and the smaller side vent erupted to about 3 feet. Lone Pine was empty and dry all afternoon. In 30 minutes of observation from the road overlook of Potts Hot Springs I did not see anything erupt. MK -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
