Dear Gazers,

Last December the Sput published the complete canon of Geyser Carols, or so I thought. It seemed to me then that the well had run dry. Imagine my surprise when a temblor of inspiration struck suddenly a couple of weeks ago, unsealing vast untapped reservoirs of hydrothermal verse. One carol gushed forth, then another, and ideas for still more came pouring out. And you, fellow gazers, are the beneficiaries of my latest eruptive activity. Look…I even came up with two verses for “O Lone Pine Geyser”!

Best Holiday Wishes,
Steve Gryc

O Lone Pine Geyser
(to the tune of “O Christmas Tree”)

O Lone Pine Geyser at West Thumb,
How lovely is thy setting,
Where eager gazers are struck dumb
To see your graceful jetting.

We walk up for a closer look,
But then park rangers throw the book.
O Lone Pine Geyser at West Thumb,
It’s just so darn upsetting.

O Lone Pine Geyser on the shore,
Your rare displays are stunning.
Your tall eruptions we adore;
They cause us to come running.

We rush in for a nearer view,
Then hear some ranger shout “HEY, YOU!”
O Lone Pine Geyser on the shore,
Our wallets you keep dunning.

The Tourist’s Carol
(to the tune of “O Come, All Ye Faithful”)

How come dumb Old Faithful
doesn’t go so high now?
And why must we wait so long
for it to erupt?
Back in the old days,
you could set your watch by it.

How come they can’t predict it?
How come they haven’t fixed it?
How come we don’t just nix it
and go get some lunch?
