  Belgian Pool
Feature Type: Hot Spring
Geyser/Spring Type: No periodic overflow

Upper Geyser Basin
Grand and Castle Group

There is some confusion over whether this pool has ever erupted as a geyser. There are records of eruptions from “Belgian Geyser” that date from the 1930s, but the records may refer to a nearby feature now known as Crystal Spring. The footprint-shaped Belgian Pool does not erupt but features attractive colors that vary from blue in the hot vent to green, yellow and orange.

The pool was named for a tourist from Belgium who was killed in 1929 after falling into the pool. Enthralled by an eruption of Grand Geyser, the unfortunate man apparently wasn’t watching where he was stepping.
